• 지난 1996년부터 역사전문가들의 철저한 고증을 바탕으로 왕궁수문장교대의식이 일반인들에게 보여지고 있다. 덕수궁 대한문 앞에서 선보이는 왕궁수문장교대의식은 영국 왕실의 근위병교대의식과 같은 한국 전통의 궁중문화 재현 행사로서, 왕실문화를 직접 체험하기 어려운 요즈음 진귀한 구경거리를 제공하고 있다. 정해진 시간에 궁궐의 문을 열고 닫는 것에서부터, 경비, 순찰의 임무를 맡고 있는 수문장들은 고유의 의상을 입은 채 하루 3회 교대의식을 갖는다.
  
  일년 365일 덕수궁 대한문 앞에서 재현되는 왕궁수문장교대의식은 꼭 관람 해볼만한 볼거리다. 오전 11시 00분부터 11시 30분까지 오후 2시부터 2시 30분까지, 마지막으로 오후 3시 30분부터 4시 까지 하루 3차례, 30분간 같은 순서대로 진행되고 있으므로 원하는 시간에 방문해 관람하면 된다. 왕궁수문장교대의식의 관람은 무료이며, 매주 월요일과 혹독한 추위와 더위가 있는 날에는 행사를 진행하지 않는다. 왕궁수문장교대의식은 다양한 전통 악기를 앞세운 채 교대조가 등장하면서 시작한다. 그 후 정해진 암호를 상호간에 알려 아군인지를 확인하는 절차를 마친다. 그 후에는 약 8분간 수위의식, 7분간의 교대의식, 그리고 마지막으로 예를 마치고 순찰을 도는 것으로 의식은 끝이 난다. 6개 관직의 군사 18명이 북을 치며 큰소리로 의식을 진행하는 모습에서는 박진감이 느껴진다.
