창덕궁은 1405년 경복궁의 이궁으로 지은 궁궐이다. 경복궁의 동쪽에 위치한다 하여 이웃한 창경궁과 더불어 동궐이라 불렀다. 임진왜란으로 모든 궁궐이 불에 타자 광해군 때에 다시 짓고 고종이 경복궁을 중건하기까지 정궁 역할을 하였다. 조선의 궁궐 중 가장 오랫동안 임금들이 거처했던 궁궐이다.

경복궁의 주요 건물이 좌우대칭의 일직선상에 놓여 있다면 창덕궁은 산자락을 따라 건물들을 골짜기에 안기도록 배치하여 한국 궁궐 건축의 비정형적 조형미를 대표하고 있다. 또한, 비원으로 잘 알려진 창덕궁 후원은 다양한 정자, 연못, 수목, 괴석이 어우러진 아름다운 곳이다. 현재 남아있는 조선의 궁궐 중 그 원형이 가장 잘 보존된 창덕궁은 자연과의 조화로운 배치가 탁월한 점에서 1997년 유네스코 세계문화유산으로 등록되었다.

[일상여행] 경복궁 여행. -Gyeongbokgung tour - Royal Palace of the Joseon Dynasty 조선시대 으뜸 궁궐.. 경복궁에 다녀왔습니다. Gyeongbokgung Kyng-bok Palace is the first court of the Joseon Dynasty. In front of Gwanghwamun which is the main gate, there is a wide yukchon street (now Sejongno), and it is also the center of Hanyang (Seoul) city planning which is the royal road. It was founded in 1395 by Taejo Lee Sung-gyeong. It was burnt down in 1592 by Imjin Jungran. It was rebuilt in 1867, when it was Kojong. The Gyeongbok Palace, which was led by the Heungseon Daewongun, was a majestic figure of 500 buildings with a maze of stairs.   Inside the palaces, the king 's and government' s administrative facilities, royal living space, and support space for relaxation were created. It is also a place where many small palaces are gathered again in palaces such as the palace of the queen, the palace of the palace, and the royal palace of Gojong. However, during the Japanese colonial rule, most of the buildings were demolished, leaving only a few central buildings, such as the Kunjeongjeon, and building the Chosun Government-General's Office building to hide the palace itself. Fortunately, a restoration project was launched in 1990 and the building of the governor's office was demolished and the building was restored. The king and queen settled down, Donggung, Seung Cheong Palace, and Taewon. The central part connecting Gwanghwamun - Gwangyeolmun - Gyungjungmun - Kwon Jeongjeon - Sajeongjeon - Gangnyeonjeon - Gyeongsangjeon is the core space of the palace and is constructed symmetrically according to the geometric order. However, except for the center, the buildings are arranged asymmetrically and have the beauty of change and unification together. Please enjoy the essence of high-class and elegant royal culture in Gyeongbokgung, which is the capital of Seoul and the main palace of Korea.

영국인의 한복 첫인상은?!

이번 주에는 설날을 맞아 올리 아버님과 함께 한복 차려입고 경복궁에 간 영상을 준비했어요! 진정한 신사다운 올리 아빠가 왕처럼 한복을 차려입으시면 재밌을 것 같다고 생각했어요!! 실제로 역시 잘어울리시더라구요! 왕의 곁을 지킬 왕비의 역할은 누가 맡았을까요…? 여러분들도 다 아시겠죠? ㅎㅎㅎ 저도 아버님 덕분에 선비도 되어보고, 경복궁 구경도 가보고 즐거웠는데, 무엇보다 아버님이 촬영하는 내내 너무 좋아하셔서 뿌듯하더라고요! 영국신사를 한국 왕으로 만들기 도전!! 과연 어떤 모습일지 끝까지 꼭 봐주시구요! 이번 영상도 즐겁게 봐주셨으면 좋겠어요!! :)

So it turns out that Ollie's dad is a real lover of history and culture, and so this week we take him on a historical adventure to the old palace in Seoul, and of course to experience it properly we dressed up in traditional Korean Hanbok - with Ollie's Dad dressed as the King!! 100첩 반상 받고 뻗으신 영국 임금님??!!

안녕하세요! 다들 설연휴 잘 보내시고 맛있는 음식 많이 드셨나요? 저희도 이번 편에서 엄청 많이 먹게 됐어요! 올리 아버님과 함께 멋진 한옥에서 제대로 된 한정식을 먹으러 갔거든요! 임금님들이 드실 법한 수라상 메뉴를 주문했는데… 정말 음식이 끝도 없이 나왔어요! 그래도 지금까지 올리 아빠께 계속 “도전 음식" 만 드리는것 처럼 보여서 걱정 했는데 이번엔 전통적인 한식을 소개 시켜드릴수 있어서 너무 좋았어요! 저도 사실 이런 한정식은 처음 먹어봤구요! 아무튼 이번 편도 재밌게 봐주셨음 좋겠어요!! :)

Continuing from last week, we headed out to a traditional hanok building to have a very authentic, traditional Korean meal. We thought we’d order a set-menu, fit for a king, as we were all appropriately dressed. We had so much amazing food it almost became an unintended challenge to finish all the dishes!! Enjoy!
