1900년 경성역으로 영업을 시작하였으며, 1905년 남대문역으로 명칭이 변경되었다. 1923년 다시 경성역으로 바뀌었고, 1925년 역사(驛舍)가 준공되었다. 1946년 광복 1주년을 맞아 일제강점기의 명칭인 경성부를 서울시라 칭하기로 한 서울시 헌장이 공포되었고, 이에 따라 같은 해 11월 1일부터 서울역이라 부르게 되었다.

하루 평균 9만여 명이 이용하는, 대한민국 수도인 서울의 관문이라고 할 수 있다. 한국 철도의 중추 간선노선인 경부선과 경의선의 시종착역으로, 경부선 서울역은 종착역인 부산역까지 거리가 441.7㎞이며, 경부고속철도(KTX)는 408.5㎞이다. 경의선은 도라산까지 55.6㎞이다.

경부선은 새마을호·무궁화호·KTX가 운행되며, 호남선은 KTX가 운행된다. 통일호 운행은 2004년 4월부터 폐지되었다. 새마을호·무궁화호는 대전·김천·동대구·부산 방면, KTX는 광명·대전·동대구·부산 방면과 익산·광주·목포 방면으로 운행된다. 수도권 광역전철 경의선은 일산·금촌·문산 방면으로 운행된다.

지하철 서울역은 1호선과 4호선이 만나는 환승역으로, 1974년 8월 15일 개통하였을 때 명칭은 서울역앞이었다. 1호선은 수원·천안 방면의 서울~천안 급행열차가 하루 3회 운행된다. 1호선 서울역과 경부선·경의선의 행정구역상 소재지는 서울시 중구 봉래동 2가 122번지이며, KTX와 4호선 서울역의 소재지는 용산구 동자동 43-205번지이다.

2003년 12월 완공된 신축 역사에는 백화점이 입점하고 주변에 대형 할인점이 들어서는 등 여행과 쇼핑을 겸할 수 있는 복합역으로 조성되었다. 과거에는 경부선 외에도 호남선·전라선·장항선 등 모든 장거리 열차가 운행되었으나 2004년 4월 KTX가 개통된 뒤부터 호남선·전라선·장항선은 용산역에서 출발하게 되었다. 이후 2016년 12월에 KTX 호남선·전라선 운행이 재개되었다.[네이버 지식백과] 서울역 [Seoul Station] (두산백과)

서울지하철 1호선 경부선과 서울지하철 4호선 과천선과 안산선이 합류 및 직결되는 역으로 서울지하철 1호선 경부선 명학역과 군포역 사이, 서울지하철 4호선 과천선 범계역과 안산선 산본역 사이에 있다. 1988년 10월 25일 개업했으며, 1994년 4월 1일 4호선이 직결되었다. 역명은 동명에서 유래했으며, 금정(衿井)은 어느 곳이나 파기만 하면 물이 잘 나와 물긷는 여인들의 옷을 적신다는 뜻에서 붙여졌다. 역 주변에 관모초등학교, 금정동주민센터, 금정초등학교, 금정치안센터, 산본1동주민센터, 산본2동우체국, 산본시장, 산본초등학교, 한국전기전자시험연구원 등이 있다. 코레일(Korail) 수도권서부본부 소속으로 경기도 군포시 군포로 750(금정동 87-1)에 있다.

수리사

수리사 입구 외길은 산림이 무성하고 계곡을 끼고 있어 경관이 뛰어나고 사찰을 두르고 있는 수리산은 병풍을 치고 있는 듯 아늑하게 수리사를 감싸고 있다. 산본 신도시를 벗어나 대야미로 접어들어 둔대초등학교를 지나면 두 개의 갈림길이 나온다. 그중 오른쪽 길을 택해 돌다보면 논과 밭을 끼고 구불거리는 정겨운 시골길이 계속된다. 도심과 가까운 지역 치고는 놀라우리만치 시골의 정취를 그대로 지닌 주변 풍경을 즐기며 10분 남짓 달리다 보면 속달동에 위치한 수리사 입구에 닿게 된다. 이곳에서는 차를 머물게 하고 걸어서 올라가는 게 좋다. 주차할 공간도 마땅치 않거니와 수리사까지 오르는 오솔길을 걷는 맛이 일품이기 때문이다.

수리산은 산세가 그리 험하지 않으면서도 군데군데 아늑한 등산로를 품고 있는데, 수리사 쪽으로 오르는 길도 그중 하나이다. 울창한 수림 속에 감싸인 좁고 운치 있는 길을 따라 조금만 올라가면 천년을 넘는 오랜 기간 묵묵히 터를 지켜온 고찰과 만날 수 있다.

수리사는 신라 진흥왕 때(539년~575년) 창건된 사찰로 수리산 남서쪽 중턱에 위치하고 있다. 대한불교조계종 제2교구 본사인 용주사의 말사로서, 신라 진흥왕 때 창건되었는데 창건자는 알 수 없다. 왕손인 운산대사가 "몽불수기(夢佛受記, 부처님을 친견하고 당대에 반드시 부처가 된다는 기별)"를 하여 견불산(見佛山) 수리사(修理寺)라 이름하였으며, 그 후 산 이름도 수리산이라고 부르게 되었다고 전해진다.
